Do you want to increase web site traffic, but you are in a rut, or you don’t have a big advertising budget? There are ways to market your business to sell more products or services that will not cost you an “arm and a leg.” The key is to find what works for your individual business-because what works well for some will not work well for others. Although pay-per-click services are one of the most common ways that people use to increase website traffic, there are other ways that may be even more effective to not only increase the traffic but make it more productive in sales as well. There are basically two areas to consider: ways to increase web site traffic and the web site design.
Increasing Traffic
–Pay per clickthis has been in practice for many years. Businesses bid for the right to use certain keywords or phrases. The highest bidders are placed at the top of search engines, making them more likely to be “clicked on” and increase web site traffic. The only problem with this is that sometimes you can get “false clicks” from a competitor or “curiosity clicks” from web surfers who have no intention of buying and you are still paying for those clicks. You might want to look at pay per sale services instead.
–Another way to increase web site traffic is to double target potential customers. This is similar to pay per click but the visitors who enter your keyword or keyword phrases are sent first to an informational article page with your ad featured on it. You are only charged when they click on your ad. In this way you increase web site traffic with customers who have expressed specific interest in your product.
–Blogging is something that you may or may not have considered as a way to increase web site traffic. When you use a free blog you can put links to affiliated sites, links to your site and information which will interest potential customers in your products and services like upcoming sales and new product info. You can even get customer feedback on your blog.
Web site design can also increase web site traffic. You should make sure that your site is easy to navigate, uses colors which complement your product rather than detract from it, and has graphics and font styles which are professional if you want to increase web site traffic. Put important information at the top of the page and links should be easy to find. Customers will appreciate as much information as you can give them, but not all bunched on one page. Have a FAQ page or some other format so that they can get all of the information they need without searching on someone else’s site.

Link trading is the task of getting links to your site on other sites by trading.. umm.. links. This is done to get more traffic to you web site. Link trading creates more traffic in two main ways, increased search engine rankings and also from the traffic the links themselves generate from people clicking on them.
Link Trading and Search Engines
Trading links helps search engine rankings because the algorithms that determine rankings factor in the number of sites that link back to the site to be ranked. The logic is that sites that have many links pointing back to it must be relevant and good in some sense, and are therefore ranked higher in the engines.
How to Trade Links
Now that we know what link trading is, how is it done? There are many methodologies. Since link trading can involve many contacts, requests and link categorizations, it is best to use software to handle your link trading campaign.
Link Trading Software
The software you choose should allow you to create a link directory, ad links to that directory, send requests to have your link posted on other sites and a method for keeping track of responses.
Link Trading Process
The general process begins when the site owner identifies a site which he or she would like to trade links with. Generally, these sites should be relevant to the topic of your site, or at least have a section dedicated to the topic of your site. Trading links with huge numbers of unrelated sites will actually hurt your search engine rankings in most cases. Also, usually it is a good idea to look for well-ranked sites to trade links with. The importance of a well-ranked site’s link to your site in search engine algorithms will be greater than those of not so well ranked sites.
After the site to trade links with is located, a link to that site is posted on your site. Sometimes the link would be posted on a different site than the site wishing to get a link back. This produces non-reciprocal links, which weigh heavier in search engines.
After the link is posted, a request is sent that a link back be posted, explaining that if a link back is not created, the original link to the prospects site is likely to be removed.
If a link is returned, then the trade is marked as successful and each of the link traders has one more site linking to it. Other wise a follow up is sent. If the follow up still does not result in a link back, often the link would be removed.
Link Trading Etiquette
Asking to trade links without posting a link to the site you are wishing to trade with is bad form. The prospect is likely to think “If this person has not already posted a link to my site, what will motivate them to do so when I post a link to their site?” Many people will not even respond to a link request whereas the link has not yet been posted.
This is of course only a brief introduction to link trading. In short, effective link trading requires organization, persistence and time, yet is often well worth the effort.

In 1931, Ted and Dorothy Hustead decided to
move to a town that had four things; a good
school, a Catholic Church, a doctor and an
opportunity.
They wanted to open their own pharmacy.
They eventually chose Wall, South Dakota, as
the perfect location. To others, however,
Wall seemed to be in the middle of
nowhere - somewhere between the Black Hills
and the Badlands.
The first year was a tough one - thick dust,
intense heat, and strong winds.
In their desire to move on to a more
welcoming place, tired, throat - perched
travellers rarely stopped. Then, Ted and
Dorothy came up with an idea.
They made a sign that read: Free Ice Water At
Wall DrugStore.
The sign became something of a novelty. They
made more sighs and put them farther and
farther from Wall - eventually, as far as
other countries of the world.
All druggists, of course made “free” ice
water available for their customers. Nobody
however, had thought of advertising the
luxury.
Eventually, some 4000 to 6000 customers a day
stopped at Wall DrugStore.
Josh Billings remarked, “Common Sense is
instinct and enough of it is genius.
“When it comes to attracting traffic,
everybody has ideas BUT it all seem not to
work!”
I was almost ready to quit when I found a
blend of strategies that work. Top Internet
marketers use it to achieve tons of results,
brand their names all over the Internet,
explode sales and achieve record breaking
list size in minimum time with little or
absolutely nothing spent.
It is all captured in the word FREE and
truthfully, if you have nothing FREE working
hard for you out there, it is time to get
down to work and get up with one!
Here are 3 easy to implement freebies you
can start with right now.
1. Give Out A Collection Of Free eBooks.
Go around the web and harvest a collection of
free ebooks, then give it away for free on
your website in exchange for people doing
something e.g. signing up for your newsletter.
2. Write Articles and Give It Away Free.
I wrote 2 articles last year and got 700+
subscribers from it without lifting a finger
after submitting it to a few article
submission sites.
It is surprising to note that my list still
grows today as a result of those articles.
3. Pull Your Articles Into A Report and Give
Away Reprint Rights To it Free.
This sounds insane but if you are smart, it
can make you a success overnight.
All you need to do is bury your other
programmes in the middle of your ebook and
“wham,” you start getting dangerous results.

Imagine having a billboard featuring your URL showing up every time you answer an email, post to a forum or blog or even visit your favorite online game.
Potentially that billboard could be seen by tens-of-thousands of potential website visitors.
You can make it happen and it won’t cost you a dime.
Every time you create a user name, make it your URL.
For example, I have a website called http://www.StopDebtWorry.com. If I wanted to generate traffic to that site I might sign up for a forum with the user name StopDebtWorryCom or StopDebtWorry-Com. For most people the user name obviously “translates” into a URL and can generate visitors.
You can do the same for your email: Make the “name” that displays your URL or your name plus URL. In my case the return address for my Kevin@All-In-One-Business.com account is Kevin at All-In-One-Business.com rather than Kevin Bidwell. This gets my URL out there even more and brands me along with it.
This simple change can make a huge difference in your business in the coming years.

The world wide web or www is a wonderful, inspiring, endless, fantastic place. They do call it a web for a reason - there are hundreds of thousands of websites all linked together out there. You want to be sure and get yours linked to plenty of those sites for a better position in the web.
When you are getting your link exchange campaign ready,
keep these tips in mind:
1. Link to sites that are rich in content.
2. Choose sites that are complimentary to yours,
example: if you have a site that sells pet supplies, link
to sites that give info on how to care for pets, or where
to get pets, etc.
3. Make sure your link text contains targeted keywords.
4. Stay away from link farms, which are sites that just
have links of all kinds, good or bad, relevant or not.
5. You also want your site to be rich in content, so
more sites will link to you.
6. Set up a main/category page for your links directory and
then have each category have it s own page. You don’t
want just a jumbled mess of links.
7. Do not call you links page, links - call it a resource
directory or something similar.
8. You could set up an ezine directory similar to your
resource directory for even more web connections.
9. When you find a site you like, email the webmaster,
using their name and tell them why you like their site.
Give them your url so they can take a look at your site.
Introduce yourself ask them to consider your site for
an exchange.
You resource exchange request would look something
like this:
Hello (webmaster’s name),
I have just visited your site and was very impressed
with the content and design. I would like to discuss
the possibility of a link exchange with you.
My name is Terri Seymour and I own Seymour Products
at http://www.seymourproducts.com - a home,
family, and business resource site.
I would be interested in exchanging links with your
site. Take a moment to visit my site and let me know
what you think. I will be looking forward to your
reply. Thank you for your time.
Warm Regards,
Terri Seymour
To help save time, have a copy of this request saved on
your desktop or in a email folder or where ever you prefer,
so you can just open it up and make any changes and send.
I had a link exchange directory earlier on my old site, then
decided to remove it (big mistake) because I was adding
a paid home business directory. Well, shortly thereafter,
I noticed a drop in my traffic and in my sales. I am now
building a bigger and better Resource Directory at
my site.
So, let’s get going on getting a good spot in this tangled
web of sites. Good luck in your linking campaign!
