Filed under: Online Recreation Resources — admin @ 4:25 pm

Sailing as a sport, relaxation or used as a corporate tool is extremely gratifying. There are also individual events that make it equally invigorating & can be something that the whole members of the family are capable to go and watch all at once. One of the most popular weeks of the sailing year is the Cowes Regatta Week; this sailing event takes place once a year and has been functioning since eighteen twenty-six which makes it the longest running event throughout the world. With more than five hundred sailing yachts and 8,000 competitors taking part, being watched by 70,000 viewers a day, Skandia Cowes week has attained the reputation as 1 of the foremost yachting corporate hospitality and social occurrence of the whole year. Experience Cowes 2008 with a Cowes Week charter from Ondeck Sailing School.

The eight thousand five hundred sailors involve Commonwealth and European class experienced sailors to beginner sailors. Yet if you’re not involved yourself, watching the yachting, having fun at the social gatherings & live performers, and to witness the unique atmosphere, makes it a one of a type corporate sailing event.

With Ondeck Sailing & Powerboat School, two thousands & eight embarks on the opening of their up-to-the-minute Regatta Division. Strengthen on their strong position within the yachting & sailing charter marketplace, this has seen Ondeck Yachting School, run quite a few admired events for businesses, they have at present united with Britannia Sailing Events the main organisers of industry sailing events in the UK.

The path of the sailing event itself will differ each day as issues such as the climate status, tidal torrents and haste of each rank of powerboat is taken into mind. A common Skandia Cowes Regatta has over thirty five commences a day for applicants of cruiser series one designs & keelboats; totalling over nine thundered yachts. For the duration of this period the Solent which is a busy merchant channel, is full with yachts of all makes and is principally colourful because of the yachts spinnakers. As referred to prior on top of the power boating performances the week comprises of a big number of onshore events including live music and cocktail parties. From private or commercial house parties & nominally private yacht societies and boats, there are full-sized marquees put up in the docks providing canapés & wine.

Discover the Attraction of Remote Operated Toys

Filed under: Living With Shopping, Online Recreation Resources — admin @ 12:11 pm

A radio controlled car is made up of a remote and the motor vehicle. By turning or pushing the controls up or down and left or right, the person is able to make it go in whatever direction needed.

There are so many different types of different types of makes out there on sale in the gadget market. The entry level replica vehicles can only simply travel a tiny distance. Those that long to experience the genuine deal must obtain the remote control vehicle that has to be assembled and personalised from scratch.

Remote controlled cars are labelled either as electric powered or nitro motorised. The important attribute concerning those that employ an electric engine is that the battery unit is fully renewable. Remote control cars that utilise fuel have to be refuelled and also oiled after a certain period of time, which is extremely comparable to today’s motor vehicles.

These toys are played with by kids and adults of differing ages. Particular specialist department shops have radio controlled vehicles identical to those used in NASCAR & monster trucks that are over and & again seen in the demolition derby. This just highlights that people are able to get pleasure from radio operated cars either on or off the road.

Do these outstanding tools involve plenty of tender loving care (TLC)? Yes they can. The owner should asses the battery unit, the shock absorbers and the tires often. This will help make sure that the remote control car is competent to uphold its pace and efficiency each & every occasion it is sent to the race course.

The driver would be advised to be aware that not all of the cars parts are capable of being restored. This is down to toy manufacturers designing their cars to work only up until the components purely fracture. Shoppers that want to enjoy the toy will either have to trade the components, nonetheless this can sometimes be problematic to procure.

Remote operated toys do not merely apply to motor vehicles. There are also hundreds planes, ships & helicopters to purchase in the toy outlet. Find the best guides to remote control cars at Toy-Shopper.

Both parents & teenagers alike who are inquisitive & for some reason have never done this previously would be advised to stick to the entry level model(s) and then only upgrade afterwards if the person is utterly serious with it & wants to take part in racing competitions.

Planting Pines and Spruces Near Athens Pa.

Filed under: Online Recreation Resources — admin @ 10:39 am

Spruce and pine trees are fairly easy to plant because they are
fairly rugged and durable. Yet to plant or transplant them you
do need to follow some basic guidelines. These instructions are
designed for planting in or around Athens Pa.

All people handling seedlings and small trees need to help with
the life support of your plants. Seedlings are like fish out of
water and need care which is often overlooked between the time
the seedlings are lifted and transplanted. Improper care means
higher mortality. Do not try and reinvent the wheel. You must
protect seedling from moisture and temperature extremes, as well
as physical damage. Seedlings are living and should be handled
carefully. For a higher survival rate, treat trees carefully and
plant them immediately. I like to have a backup plan for
planting if the weather turns bad. I will sometimes switch from
lining out the seedlings to potting them up if I realize that
the soil conditions will not be right for an extended lenght of
time. If planting must be delayed a few days, keep the plants in
a cold, protected place with air circulation between the trees.
Keep the trees out of the rain and wind. To check if the trees
need water, feel the media at the roots.. If it isn’t damp,
water the trees and allow the excess water to drain. In cool,
damp weather, the biggest threat to these trees is from mold.
Try to keep out of soil seedlings moist by either restricting
water loss with a water vapor barrier or by wetting the roots at
regular intervals. While handling or planting try to reduce
temperature and air movement around the seedlings. Windy days
can dry out seedlings so consider waiting for calmer weather.
Once your soil conditions are correct OUR FREE USE PLANTERS will
make planting a snap so its will be worth waiting for good
planting conditions.

HOW TO PLANT

Ideal planting days are cool and cloudy with little or no wind.
If possible, avoid planting on warm, windy days. The soil should
be moist not wet. Care in planting is more important than speed.
Make sure the roots are never allowed to become dry. Bare root
seedlings should be carried in a waterproof bag or bucket with
plenty of moist material packed around the roots to keep them
damp. Ideally, bare root boxes should be kept refrigerated or
packed in ice or snow. Don’t freeze the trees. Competition from
weeds, grass, brush or other trees is very detrimental to
survival and growth of seedlings. Choose areas free from this
competition or clear at least a three-foot square bare spot
before planting. Seedlings should not be planted under the crown
of existing trees, or closer than 6 feet to existing brush.
Avoid areas near walnut trees. Brush aside loose organic
material such as leaves, grass, etc., from the planting spot to
expose mineral soil. If organic matter gets into the planting
hole, it can decompose and leave air spaces. Roots will dry out
when they grow into these spaces. Open up the hole, making sure
the hole is deep enough for the roots to be fully extended. If
roots are curled or bunched up, the tree will not be able to
take up water correctly, will often weaken and die, or may blow
down later due to poor root structure. Take a tree out of your
planting bag or bucket only after a hole is ready. When exposed,
the fine roots can dry out in as little as 30 seconds. Seedling
shoots and roots lose water to air, roots require more
protecting.Unlike leaves ,they do not have stomata (closeable
openings on the surface of the leaves) or any waxy coatings to
help reduce water loss. If the roots apear dry they are probably
dead. Now I know you are thinking,”I will place them in a
buckect of water and store them there until planting”. This will
not work. Submerge plants for no longer that a couple of
minutes. Placing them in water cuts them off from oxygen.
Remember to remove the container before planting a containerized
tree. A helpful hint to all those new gardeners just starting is
to remember to always plant green side up. Hold the seedling in
place in the hole, making sure the roots are straight, fully
extended and that the tree is neither too shallow or too deep in
the hole. Fill hole, allowing soil to fall in around the roots.
Tamp with hands or with your heel. Don’t crush the roots by
jumping up and down around the seedling like there is a snake
curled up around the seedling. It is delicate. Fill with more
soil, if necessary, and tamp. Tamping is important. If soil is
not firmly packed around the roots, there will be air pockets
that can dry out the roots, and the seedlings may be weakly
anchored. It is far easier to plant the tree strait up then have
the tree leaning and have to adjust the tree later. (Addition of
fertilizer and plant vitamins at the time of planting is not
generally necessary.) Take your time in planting. Proper spacing
will help you grow a more valuable crop. I have tried to get
more production from a limited area by over planting and then
thinning, but I always have had trouble in harvesting ….
digging is slower and poor quality usually results for a portion
of the crop. Avoid these tree planting errors:

Tangled roots Planting too shallow Planting too deep Air pockets
Turned up roots (this is called J rooting) Planting trees that
are not tolerant of wet soils in poorly drained areas Planting
over rocks, septic tanks and leach fields, on sand mounds

CARE OF TREES FOLLOWING PLANTING Check periodically to be sure
that brush, grass and other vegetation is kept under control by
mowing, mulching, spraying or a combination of these treatments.
Always obtain advice from a licensed pest control advisor before
using chemicals. You ag extension agency may offer courses in
application of chemicals. Monitoring the appearance of your
trees will help you to detect signs of insects, diseases or
other problems. Apperances also help sell your product. Look for
foliage turning yellow, new foliage drooping or other signs of
poor health. It is easier to take successful corrective action
if the problem is detected early.

Over watering is a common problem in irrigated plantations. You
probably won’t need to water more frequently than every 7-10
days. Give your trees a thorough, deep soak and then let the
soil dry out before the next watering. This encourages the roots
to grow down in search of water. Frequent, shallow watering
encourages root growth near the surface and the trees are more
dependent on irrigation and are less windfirm. Animals can be a
major cause of damage to young trees. Porcupines, gophers, mice,
rabbits, deer and cattle are the most frequent source of damage.
In many states you may have to call your game commission and get
their recomendations on legal methods to protect your crop. In
our state, you can get help from the Pa. Game Commission to kill
deer that are a threat to your seedlings or obtain a free fence
to keep deer away from your seedlings. Over the years we have
lost more trees to mice than any other animal. Put rat baits out
on a regular basis. Over the years we have lost more seedlings
and plants to mice than any other culprit including deer and
rabbitts combined. You an see more articles about the care of

What Do You Bring Whitewater Rafting?

Filed under: Online Recreation Resources — admin @ 11:33 pm

You’re hands are sweaty with excitement and a dash of fear. The trip has been on the calendar for two months and it’s all the office can talk about. But what do you bring on a whitewater rafting trip? Do you need dry clothes? Sunglasses? Sunscreen? To simplify things I’ve written down a few must haves and some optional items as well. Remember that every outfitter is a bit different and some may provide a few of the items below so a quick call to the outfitters office may be in order.

Clothes:

Most trips taken during the summer are met with hot dry weather. Of course there
are exceptions but most of the time swim trunks and bathing suits are in order.
Women may want to wear shorts to prevent chafing while cotton shirts are to be
avoided. Since the wet cotton is cool against the skin rafters may be warmer
without shirts on. On cold days outfitters may offer paddle jackets for rent and
wetsuits. Some include them into the price of the trip so it is best to check. Also
don’t worry about dry clothes until you get back to your car. Most of the time it is
so hot by the time you have put the rafts back on the vans or busses you’re warm
and dry.

Sandals:

It’s best to bring tennis shoes or sandals with straps. Flip flops are likely
to fall off your foot and become lost. The Middle Fork of the American in California
has a mandatory portage around a water fall and guests who have Teva or Chaco
sandals seem to do the best. Since footwear is important in case of an emergency
don’t cheat on this item.

Sunglasses:

It’s a horrible rule but one that seems to always happen. If you own
nice glasses and don’t put on a pair of straps you’re going to lose them. Cheap
glasses are great because the loss factor is not as bad but if you have prescription
glasses or want polarized lenses make sure you take straps and secure them to your
head. It’s not a guarantee that they will stay there but I’ve gone through four
seasons with prescription glasses and been ok.

Water and snacks:

Most companies will provide some water at meals or on the
boats but you can never have enough. Water bottles are fine just lying around on
the bottom of the boat and the more water the better. Snacks also can be stuffed
into plastic bags for calm sections of the rivers but make sure you bring enough for
everyone in the boat. Companies usually have some sort of snack after the trip and
before lunch.

Cameras:

Waterproof disposable cameras are best but if you have a waterproof case
for your digital camera that should work fine as well.

Remember that most likely if you are doing a day trip then all you really need is
yourself. The outfitter I worked for covered just about everything else and many
times guides carried emergency items with them. I always had a few fleeces in case
it got cold and a splash jacket or two. First aid kids, emergency radios and other
gear are carried by the guides. Remember if you have any questions to call the
outfitter before you go rafting. It’s much easier to understand what is going on
before you get there and are suddenly floating along a river towards what sounds
like a fright train.

A Backpack With Wheels?

Filed under: Online Recreation Resources — admin @ 12:03 pm

I wouldn’t have thought a backpack with wheels would actually work for backpacking, but when I saw the web site for the “Wheelpacker”(TM), I was impressed. You wear a frame that attaches you to a wheeled pack. It can even go over logs and rocks. It started me thinking about what other backpacking innovations are just waiting to be marketed. Here are a few of the things I came up with. Steal these ideas, please.

Inflatable Frame Backpack

With frame-less backpacks we often put folded sleeping pads in the pack for cushioning against our backs and some support for the load. Why not just have the part of the pack that rests against the user’s back inflate. With the same technology used for lightweight self-inflating sleeping bag pads, it would only add about six ounces. The backpack could then double as a foot-bag/pad for sleeping.

Taking this idea further, I imagine a self-inflating backpack that folds out into a sleeping pad. The backpack “frame” would be the pad, in a “U” shape for some rigidity in the pack. Self-inflating sleeping bag pads are as light as 14 ounces now, and frame less packs 12 ounces, so the combination could probably be made to weigh just 20 ounces.

Wax Paper Food Bags

Put backpacking food in wax-paper packaging instead of plastic. The packages then double as emergency fire-starters, since wax paper will usually burn even when wet.

Pillow/Waterbag

When I need to carry more water I use the plastic bladders from boxed wine. They are light, strong, and I inflate the bag with air to use as a pillow too. To market a dual-purpose water container/pillow, it just needs a soft removable covering of some sort.

Jacket Backpack

Why not a frame-less backpack with a jacket that is a part of the pack? It can be folded out of the way, and the pack would have normal shoulder straps. When wearing the jacket, though, it would stabilize the pack, keep you warmer, and make it easy to push through heavy brush, because it wouldn’t catch on things as easily. It is something like wearing a large jacket over a backpack, but with the weight-savings and stability that come from combining them. It could be called a “Jacket Pack-it.”

Backpacking Game

Print a chess/checkers board on a jacket or backpack, and you have a carry-along game that weighs nothing extra. Great for spending hours in the tent waiting out the rain. If you don’t carry the pieces, stones or pine cones could work as checkers.

Backpacking gear ideas and innovations keep popping into my head as I write this. Most are based on the idea of “dual purpose” items. They may work, some may not, but it is an entertaining dose of inspiration from a backpack with wheels.

Mole Crickets

Filed under: Online Recreation Resources — admin @ 9:34 pm

Mole crickets, so called because they look like moles, live underground and feed on small insects, plant roots, tubers, vegetables, underground stems of grasses and earthworms found in the soil. They are cylindrical in shape and measure around 1.25 inch in length. They are generally brown in color and are covered in fine silky hair. They have paddle-shaped forelegs, which make them suitable for burrowing. The legs are also very sharp to enable root-cutting. Mole crickets do not bite or sting and they also do not damage fabric or paper products unlike house crickets.

Mole crickets generally cause problems to crops since they reside underground and tend to damage the root systems. Female mole crickets lay hundreds of eggs, increasing the danger to plant life if not controlled. Mole cricket eggs hatch in 10 to 40 days.

Though mole crickets mostly stay underground, they are good fliers and are found to fly even up to 5 miles, especially during mating periods. Mole crickets are very nutritious and are a popular treat for rats, birds, foxes, armadillos and raccoon.

One way to control mole crickets is to use a chemical treatment. Started early enough, this would also be effective in preventing mole crickets from entering your lawn. Maxforce Granules is an effective chemical that can be used. These are sprinkled around the yard before a rain. Mole crickets feeding on these granules die immediately. However, this is effective only if the mole crickets have not yet established themselves in the yard. If there are mole cricket nests already, it would need regular chemical treatment of once a month for at least three months. Orthene Turf WP and Talstar Granules are other popularly used products for controlling mole crickets. These chemicals are also available in concentrated liquid form, dusts, wettable powders and aerosol forms . Acephate (Orthene), carbaryl (Sevin), chlorpyrifos (Dursban), diazinon (Diazinon, Spectracide), Malathion, or propoxur (Baygon) are other commonly used insecticides.

Some basic methods to control mole crickets from entering the house are: avoid use of bright lights outside since crickets get attracted to bright lights; seal any cracks in the around doors, windows and in the walls and floors; keep the area in and around the house dry and clean since mole crickets prefer moist environments; ensure that low-growing vegetation is planted at least 12 inches away from the house; sprinkle cricket baits available in the market; sticky traps can be used to trap crickets, which can then be flushed down the toilet or destroyed; take the help of a good pest control company if the problem with crickets is too unmanageable.

Crickets provides detailed information about crickets, live crickets, mole crickets, cave crickets and more. Crickets is the sister site of Gatlinburg Cabins Web.
